The launch of a new charitable foundation
We helped create a new narrative-driven website for Larry Ellison’s new charitable foundation. This project was created at pace and delivered within 12 weeks. Initially we were brought in to do a larger future focused website, but we changed direction to a more focused linear narrative to help deliver on what was possible from the content team within a short period of time.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITES
My role was as a User Experience Director within the selected agency. My general responsibilities were:
Create all UX deliverables including wireframes and sitemaps.
To work directly with the client’s content team to help craft page narrative.
Work with the Creative Director to help change concepts and rapidly develop new designs.
A site to grow into
Originally we envisaged a larger site to grow into from the initial limited content at launch. We organised the future site around pillars of focus for Larry Ellison’s historical and future plans of charitable giving.
Creating a digital narrative
We created a series of pages focusing on telling Larry Ellison’s story in relation to the direction of his new foundation. There was a series of interviews conducted with Larry Ellison where we pulled out key phrases and comments as guidance to the story structure and narrative on each page. This was conducted in conjunction with the creative team creating some initial concepts.
A change in direction
During the process of the project it became clear that we would not have a large amount of content to work from in relation to different areas of focus for the foundation. We went back to the drawing board and created a more streamlined singular narrative to help Larry Ellison tell his story and set a direction for the future of the foundation.
We created a new homepage that was focused around visual communication and delivering narrative led experience split into three core chapters that outlined Larry Ellison’s ambitions, his history of charitable giving and their future areas of focus and partnerships.
Wireframes
Working with the Creative Director and our new 3-chapter narrative we came up with some concepts to help deliver the experience. We landed on using Larry Ellison’s own history and collection of Japanese artwork as inspiration of a way to represent Larry Ellison and his foundation. We used a crane from a Larry Ellison owned piece of art to help symbolise the foundation taking flight.
